Wallsall TOC Christmas Bash 1998 'Party Report'
By Graham Jones

Report on the TOC Pre-Christmas Social Weekend December 5th & 6th 1998. (For 1997 Click here!)

Was it really that time already? Perhaps it was my age but it seemed only a few weeks ago that members met for the 1997 'bash' and there we were arriving for the 1998 pre-Christmas Social Weekend.

The venue was once again the 'Friendly Hotel' in the heart of the West Midlands, where 65 members convened to talk of restorations, repairs and overhauls, rallies and social events and of all the highs and lows of Traction ownership experienced over the past year. Attendees were slightly fewer in number than previous years with some notable absentees. In particular, sadly, Stan Barker wasn't well enough to join us having recently been discharged from hospital following his heart attack while preparing for the Classic Car Show at the NEC.

In spite of one or two hiccups on the catering front, a good time was had by all. Our grateful thanks to Steve Southgate for the organisation and to Master of Ceremonies, Raffle Promoter and part time Father Christmas, 'Barrie the Brick'. Dedicated followers of TOC fashion will be interested to know that Barrie's hat, a little green number, was created for him by a well known truck manufacturer.

A new venue, yet to be decided, is proposed for this year's event and a provisional date has been set for the weekend of November 27/28th, so pencil that in your diary and watch out for further announcements. In case it has escaped your notice it will be the last TOC national event in this Millennium so let's make it a good one!
